Film Festival - February 5th 2010

Louis de Bernieres, the award-winning author of Captain Correlli's Mandolin, opened Norfolk's first rural film festival at Great Hockham Village Hall.

It wasn’t the first time that Hockham Village Hall had been transformed into a cinema and given the response it certainly won’t be the last, but to host the opening night of the Breckland Film Festival was a special moment for the Village.

It was a total sell out of the 60 tickets we had allocated and with Bhajiman Don Lear (www.bhajiman.co.uk), John Unsworth and their assistant’s excellent snacks going well with the wine donated by Breckland Council it all started very well. Patsy Peachey and Barbara Ward had decorated the room and marquees with an Indian theme and a number of people came suitably dressed for the film Slumdog Millionaire.

Many people came along we suspect, with lower expectations of the equipment quality only of course to discover that the film, sound and looks were absolutely brilliant for such a small venue.

The icing on the cake was of course the unexpected appearance of BBC Look East presenter Mike Liggins and his cameraman during the day and the short clip that went out at 6.45 got another showing at the end of the evening, much to the delight or despair of those that appeared in it.
