Little Hockham

Little Hockham has recently been referred to as an official Norfolk deserted village.  It has never been large but is referred to in Little Domesday (Parva Hocham) as a hamlet held by Thorold in 1066 and in 1086 by Roger Bigot.

Francis Blomefield the famous 18th century Norfolk historian refers to Little Hockham having a church in the 1200’s but recent papers have suggested that St Mary’s may have referred to a side alter in Gt Hockham Church.

Little Hockham Hall has a much older history than many local houses and indeed may be the site of the original Saxon Manor.
